The West Philadelphia Skills Initiative (WPSI) is pleased to name the fourth annual class of WPSI Scholars. The twenty-five selected Skills Initiative alumni will each receive funding in varying amounts from $2,500-$5,000 for tuition and associated fees, totaling $97,500. To date, this is the largest total amount awarded to a single cohort of Scholars. This last-dollar scholarship program is funded through generous donations from the Hummingbird Foundation and the Chappell-Culpeper Foundation.
“This scholarship is a tangible impact of how lives are changed when there is access to resources that provide equitable and affordable education to well-deserving and highly qualified Philadelphians,” says Jazzmin Prosper, Manager of Alumni Development and Continuing Education. “We are extremely thankful to our funders, the Hummingbird Foundation and the Chappell-Culpeper Foundation, for facilitating the expansion of the scholarship program.”
For over 10 years, WPSI has built a reputation as one of the highest performing workforce intermediaries in the country by building customized talent solutions to bridge the divide between unemployed Philadelphians seeking opportunity and employers seeking talent. WPSI University provides ongoing workplace education and academic advancement for WPSI graduates, giving them the tools and credentials necessary to thrive in the 21st-century job market.
The staff at the Skills Initiative extends best wishes to recipients as they prepare for the next steps in their educational journey. We look forward to sharing stories of their continued success.
