Sharing Three New Grants for the Skills Initiative

Grant Recipients pose for the camera

Our work at The Skills Initiative would not be possible without the support of generous funders and supporters. Below, read details about three grants we received at the end of 2024. We are grateful to each of the funders for their help in advancing our mission to connect residents seeking opportunity to employers seeking talent.

In December of 2024, we were the recipients of a $250,000 Industry Partnership (IP) Grant from the Pa Workforce Development Board, Department of Labor & Industry, and Department of Community and Economic Development to advance our efforts to build industry partnerships through our new Keystone Healthcare Collaborative. This award expands our ability to meet community needs as we work with the region’s leading healthcare employers to promote this area as a national leader in healthcare workforce and service delivery, as we’ve also begun to do through our Keystone LifeSci Collaborative. In addition to the financial support, we will also receive technical assistance and coaching from the Commonwealth to ensure that our partnership is positioned for long-term success. We are grateful to the Commonwealth for their continued support in our work to strengthen the healthcare industry in our region. Read more.

In the fall of 2024, the Chappell Culpeper Family Foundation continued their support of The Skills Initiative with a $100,000 gift. This new gift will underwrite training stipends for healthcare cohorts, including roles like Certified Medical Assistants and Certified Nursing Assistants. Chappell Culpepper, a private foundation dedicated to fostering sustainable upward mobility for individuals and families, has previously focused their gifts on supporting Skills Initiative alumni through scholarships, but we are excited and grateful for this new priority on supporting our many jobseekers pursuing new careers in healthcare.

The Lincoln Financial Foundation renewed their commitment to our efforts last month with a new gift of $35,000 to support our general operations. The Lincoln Financial Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Lincoln Financial, and focuses on building stronger communities through nonprofit partnerships in financial wellness, education and human services, with the long-term goal of helping people build secure financial futures for themselves and their families. This new support pushes total contributions from the Lincoln Financial Foundation to The Skills Initiative to over $300,000 in total funds since 2013.
