On Thursday, March 9th, our West Philadelphia Skills Initiative (WPSI) enjoyed a visit from Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry Secretary Kathy Manderino as part of her “Jobs that Pay” tour. The tour is a way for L&I to learn about successful workforce programs across the state, and share that information with other like-minded organizations and employers to create a workforce system that supports all workers in Pennsylvania.
Secretary Manderino and L&I workforce development Deputy Secretary Eileen Cipriani joined WPSI staff, graduates, and current participants to learn about the Skills Initiative and what it has meant for participants to be connected to meaningful work in West Philadelphia.
Speaking on the program, Secretary Manderino said, “These truly are jobs that pay. Successful graduates are making a living wage, receiving benefits, and forging a clear career path to a successful future.”
We are grateful for the visit from Secretary Manderino and Deputy Secretary Cipriani, and hope our successful program can serve as a model for others across the state.
